Terrapin K9 Academy believes that obedience training is about two species, human and canine, discovering a new language together.  Dogs do not comprehend any of the spoken languages devised by humans and nor, for that matter, do humans fully understand the body language dogs are so proficient in.  That leaves a large gap in communication, a gap that must be filled with some mutual understanding.  We are here to help seal that gap.  Together with you and your dog we will work towards the goal of developing a new way of “talking” to each other.  Discovering the language that is obedience means improving your relationship with your dog, and what could be better than that?
At our school we utilize a range of methods to achieve the goals we set out.  Lure and reward techniques tend to be the most fun and fastest for most dogs and owners, therefore they are usually the most practical place to start.  We do believe that training should as fun as possible so that your dog becomes BIDDABLE (willingly obedient) to his owners.
We have explored many different training techniques and come to the conclusion that the situation, the personality of the dog, the preferences of the owner and a vast range of other circumstances decide which methods would be best suited for a particular situation.
Ultimately, manners and obedience are about the relationship you share with your dog, and we are here to help you bring that relationship to its highest level.
